Blackfin Landscape LCD EZ-Extender

Blackfin Landscape LCD EZ-Extender daughter board

The Blackfin Landscape LCD EZ-Extender daughter board is an commercial product for Blackfin STAMP and EZ-Kit. For more information about the card, please refer to en/embedded-processing-dsp/blackfin/bf-extenderlcd/products/product.html.

Description

The Blackfin Landscape LCD EZ-Extender daughter board extends the capabilities of the EZ-KIT Lite by allowing users to connect to a landscape LCD on the Blackfin BF52x, BF53x and BF54x processors. The EZ-Extender connects to the ADSP-BF526 EZ-Board/EZ-KIT Lite, ADSP-BF537 EZ-KIT Lite, ADSP-BF538 EZ-KIT Lite, or the ADSP-BF548 EZ-KIT Lite.

The EZ-Extender supports a 3.5” landscape QVGA (320×240) display from SHARP. This LCD Display can operate at VDDIO from 1.6V to 3.6V. This allows this LCD to be a good fit for both normal use as well as low power applications. The Analog Devices AD7879 is used as the low cost touchscreen controller for the LCD Display. The AD7879 on the EZ-Extender is a small 16 pin LFCSP package and is also ideal for low power applications..

The EZ-Extender also has an Analog Devices AD7147-1 programmable controller for capacitance touch sensors. The capacitance controller interfaces to the Blackfin processor via a simple TWI (Two Wire Interface). The other end of the controller will interface to external capacitance sensors implementing functions such as capacitive buttons and scroll wheel.

Features

  • System Requirements : ADSP-BF526 EZ-Board/ADSP-BF526 EZ-KIT Lite, ADSP-BF537 EZ-KIT Lite, ADSP-BF538 EZ-KIT Lite, or the ADSP-BF548 EZ-KIT Lite
  • Capacitance Touch Controller: AD7147-1 Programmable Controller for Touch Sensors

Hardware Configuration BF526-EZBRD ( Rev 0.2 )

See also here: bf526-ezbrd

On the BF526 EZBRD the LCD Interface (Pin Muxing) requires UART1 turned off – It therefore can’t be used as serial console, etc.
Default BF526-EZBED kernel configuration enables CONFIG_MTD_M25P80 on SPISEL1. This option need to be disabled because it uses the same SPISEL1 as the LCD Configuration interface.

	JP11: 3 & 4 installed
	JP12: OFF
	JP13: 2 & 3 installed (SET 1 & 2 in case the AD7879 (AUX/GPIO) should turn on the Backlight)

Hardware Configuration BF537 STAMP/EZ-KIT Lite

The Blackfin Landscape EZ-Extender has limited compatibility with the ADSP-BF537 EZ-KIT Lite.

Below are the following limitations:

  • The Sharp LCD and the AD7879 (LCD Touch Controller) can be used together or the Sharp LCD and the AD7147-1 (Capacitance Touch Controller) can be used together.
  • The AD7879, AD7147-1, and the Sharp Display cannot all be used simultaneously.

This is due to limited GPIO availability on the BF537 Stamp PPI Interface.

In case you like to utilize all peripherals it's necessary to manually wire additional signals.

This example configuration allows the LCD, Touchscreen and Capacitance Touch Senor being used simultaneously.
