Accounts under coLinux

Your coLinux install will have its own set of user accounts and passwords. You can make more accounts, and each will have its own password. We'll just cover the basics here to get you going. Beyond that, please consult some the documentation for the distribution that is being used with your coLinux. The default one that comes with the Blackfin installer is Debian.

Default

The default install comes with two users: root and uclinux. The root user is for system maintenance (installing packages, modifying system files, etc…) while the uclinux user is for all of your development efforts (building the uClinux distribution, U-Boot, etc…).

The passwords of both users will be randomly generated during the install. To find them out, simply run coLinux and read the motd.

Changing Passwords

If you're logged in as the root user, you can change the password of anyone:

colinux:~# passwd
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully

colinux:~# passwd uclinux
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully

If you're logged in as anyone else, you may only change your own password:

uclinux@colinux:~$ passwd
Changing password for uclinux
(current) UNIX password:
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully
