Getting Started

This section explains how to register as a new user, how to register a new project and explains the user’s home page. Homepage

Registering as a new user

While it is not necessary to register to be able to look at source, examine the bug list or download projects, it is necessary to be a registered user to ask questions in the user forums, report bugs, submit new feature requests, or contribute source code. To register as a new user, click on the New Account button on the top right side of the browser window.

To register as a user, you need to fill out the form with the following data:

  • Login Name

You should select a unique user name to access the system. The name should not contain uppercase letters and usually is a combination of your name and your surname; e.g. “juser” for John User. Also, the user name cannot match that of an existing system user account - i.e., you can’t have a user named ’root’.

  • Password

You should insert your password here. It must be at least 6 characters long and is case sensitive. You shouldn\’t use blatantly obvious names for the password. It should be easy to remember for you, but hard to guess for others. So don\’t use the name of your dog, your cat, or the name of your birth city.

It is strongly recommended that you use a combination of letters and numbers for your password.

  • Full/Real Name

Here you should enter your full name.

  • Language Choice

Select your preferred language. This choice determines the language in which will speak to you, as well as some local specific data display formats such as, dates, etc.

  • Time Zone

Select your time zone. Note that GMT is preselected. All dates will be shown relative to your time zone.

  • Email Address

You should insert your email address here. The email address you enter must be a valid, active email address. will send you an email to confirm your subscription. If the email address you\’re inserting here is wrong or inactive, you’ll never receive the confirmation email and the account you’re registering will never be activated. When you receive the confirmation email, you must connect to using the provided URL in the email. This is the only way to become a registered user.

  • Receive Email about Site Updates

If you check this, you’ll periodically receive information about the site. The corresponding traffic is very low; it is recommended that you activate this option.

  • Receive additional community mailings

If you check this, you’ll periodically (once a month) receive information about the site. Monthly update emails on the existing project status and information on new projects that have been started will be sent to this list.


You can login by clicking the Log In image in the top-right border of the browser window.

The form requires that you insert your username and your password to access the site. If the data is correct, your user homepage will be displayed.


To log out of, click on the Log Out button in the top right of your browser window.

Account Maintenance

The Account Maintenance page allows you to manage and update your user account. Here, you will be able to edit aspects of your account that you entered when you registered. You can change everything that you entered when you registered except for your Login Name. You also cannot edit the fields, Member since or User Id.
